Children deserve to see themselves in stories
For the Sister Girl Collection, reading is an opportunity to celebrate children’s curiosity and potential. Books featuring Black girls can give families a familiar character to talk about while sharing stories of learning, trying again, and spending time together.
In Sister Girl and the Training Wheels, a new skill opens a conversation about patience and support. Ask your child: What felt difficult for Sister Girl? Who helped her? What is something you would like to learn?
Sister Girl and the New Dress invites conversation about sewing, creativity, and saving money. After reading, children can draw something they would like to make and explain their choices. Sister Girl and the Family Dinner connects reading with family traditions, gardening, and time around the table.
A simple family reading routine
Choose a regular time that fits your family. Begin with one book, let your child help select it, and make room for questions. Reading aloud can be shared with parents, grandparents, caregivers, and siblings. A library visit is another way to discover stories and keep the selection fresh.
Share books with more children
Find diverse children’s books and activities in our book collection. Schools, libraries, and community organizations can build a 25-, 50-, or 100-book order with their preferred combination of Sister Girl storybooks. For more than 100 books, use the quote form on that page.
